How GOOD does this Chocolate Berry Layered Smoothie look?!

We might be heading into Autumn here in Australia, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still have nourishing smoothies. Plus it was 32 degrees on the Gold Coast so definitely still #smoothieweather!

But if it’s cooler weather for you today, then pop on a sweater if you have to and cosy up with this delicious Chocolate Berry Layered Smoothie. Trust me, the brain freeze will be worth it. 😉

It’s the perfect breakfast (make it the night before for convenience), too-busy-to-stop-lunch or even as a treat to an ice cream craving … and if you freeze this in icy pole molds, it practically IS ice cream so #winwin!

I love a layered smoothie. They might take a little extra effort, but it’s so worth it –

  • You get at least TWO flavours (you can layer as many as you like if you’re ambitious!).
  • They look every-so-pretty with complementary colours.
  • No having to decide whether you want chocolate or vanilla – why not have both?!

This Chocolate Berry Layered Smoothie is a nice simple combination to start exploring some layered smoothies. Comment your favourite combinations too!

Chocolate Berry Layered Smoothie {Recipe}
Prep time
Total time
A layered smoothie has the best of both worlds – all the flavours and ever-so-pretty!
Recipe type: Smoothie
Serves: 2-3
  • Berry smoothie layer
  • 1 cup frozen organic mixed berries
  • 1 sachet French Vanilla Complete (or vegan vanilla protein of choice)
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • Water as needed
  • Chocolate smoothie layer
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 sachet Dutch Chocolate Complete (or vegan chocolate protein of choice)
  • 1 tbsp almond butter (or nut butter of choice)
  • 1 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 1 handful baby spinach
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • Water as needed
  1. Add all the ingredients for the berry layer to a high-powered blender. Blend until smooth, adding water as needed – keep it nice and thick though so when you pour the next layer, you get a clean separation.
  2. Pour the berry smoothie layer into your jars or glasses between ½ - ¾ full. Pour any remaining smoothie mixture into another jar or glass too.
  3. Next, add all the ingredients for the chocolate layer to a high-powered blender. Blend until smooth, again only adding water as needed and keeping the consistency thick.
  4. Slowly pour the chocolate layer over the berry blend layer so you get a clean difference between each layer.
  5. Serve with extra fresh berries or top with raw cacao nibs, coconut or chia seeds.
TIP: Freeze the first smoothie layer in the jar/glass for a bit first to make it super easy to pour a clean line.
